Music, memory, and Afro-Atlantic life worlds—from port cities to the sugarlands

I’m an interdisciplinary scholar and artist whose work examines race, gender, religion, and the arts in Afro-Atlantic port cities and the landscapes that sustain them. Through music, historical research, and public humanities practice, I trace how rivers, plantations, ritual life, and urban worlds shape Black diasporic memory—from New Orleans and the Mississippi River Road to Havana and Matanzas, Salvador and the Paraguacu, and Lagos and its connected hinterlands.

Music
