Shèr is a versatile vocalist and songwriter inspired by the legacy of jazz and blues women such as Nina Simone, Etta James, Dinah Washington, and Sweet Emma Barrett. Known for the honey timbre of her voice, Shèr delivers the spirit of the down-home storyteller with a dash of swag that speaks to contemporary world and pop audiences.
She then throws in a pinch of adventure. A native Californian with family roots in Louisiana, Shèr grew up with parents and a grandmother who nurtured her mind with stories of their travels to places as near and far as Mexico, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Spain.
While in college, Shèr had the opportunity to begin spinning her own tales of a brave new world, traveling to Ghana, Cuba, Brazil, Nigeria, and touring Jamaica twice as a vocalist with the University of Pittsburgh Jazz Ensemble.
Based in New York City these days, Shèr continues to draw on these different influences to compose and arrange music she defines as Afro-dia soul. Performing in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Louisiana Creole, and Yorùbá she continuously incorporates sounds and experiences from her journey along the way. Each song is a testament to the dust tracks on a road.
